FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Michael McGee Kicks Off 2010 With Service Event At Paraclete Foundation

South Boston – On Saturday, January 16th, Democrat Michael McGee and volunteers hosted the campaign’s first service event at the Paraclete Foundation in South Boston.  Michael is a 2010 candidate for State Representative in South Boston and the Upham’s Corner and Harbor Point neighborhoods of Dorchester. The Paraclete Foundation provides high quality educational intervention for middle-school youth.  Volunteers mopped floors, dusted shelves, vacuumed rugs, and cleared ice off the sidewalk at the Paraclete school.  Youth from Upham’s Corner also helped with the project.  The project was very important to the Paraclete and its volunteer teachers, who rely upon volunteers to maintain their facility.

McGee has this to say about the event at the Paraclete:

“A priority for this campaign is to bring everyone in our neighborhood together to achieve a common goal of serving the community.  Whether you have lived in South Boston or Dorchester your whole life or you have just moved here in the past few years, we all should be involved in serving the community.  I am inspired by the volunteers who spent their Saturday helping the Paraclete, an afterschool program that helps our youth achieve their academic goals every day.

Being an elected representative requires a commitment to serve the community.  This is a simple and obvious notion, but it is one that is sometimes overlooked.  I am truly passionate about serving the community in South Boston and Dorchester.  I love coaching CYO basketball down at the PAL.  I look forward to steering committee meetings for the South Boston Neighborhood House Annual Event or meetings for the task force to create a South Boston Arts and Cultural Center.  As excited as I am about running for public office, I am just as excited about getting more people involved.  If you are interested in lending a hand in South Boston and Dorchester and discussing ways that we all can give back to our community, please join Team McGee.”

Michael McGee’s campaign has another service event planned for February.  To join “Team McGee,” send an e-mail to CommitteeForMcGee@gmail.com, call (617) 752-1832, or become a fan of Mike McGee 2010 on Facebook.
